A city and its portfolio

Since its tercentenary, a stone plaque placed on the facade of our town hall reminds us that the City of Sète was created by decree of the Council of State of September 30, 1673. Fifty years later, we are celebrating its 350 years with a Historical Portfolio made up of rare photographs from a not-so-distant era. From the first photographic print known to date, a daguerreotype of the channel taken in 1845, to the bird's eye view of the city from the summit of Mont Saint-Clair taken in 1925, a unique collection of 30 photographs span 80 years of the age gold from our port city. Prints made by photographers who often demonstrate artistic talent, and dazzling panoramic views that have nothing to envy of bucolic landscapes flown over by a drone. In 30 landscapes, this collection restores symbolic or sometimes trivial places, always privileged. It captures the daily life of those who made the city unique from day to day, and who met at the cafés in the market halls and around the Cadre royale during the Saint-Louis jousts announced by the parade of men in white.
